Something has gone terribly wrong here

So I’m in the process of trying to “fix” the issues. Most of them weren’t very noticeable at a cursory glance, but after a few clicks you would have been able to spot a couple of big ones. I hope to be finished with the worst of the problems by this evening. Afterward, I’ll just have a few stylistic ones to take care of that probably don’t matter to anyone except me.

I’m also not sure how I feel about my new “theme.” I may end up changing it to something else that I can personalize a little bit more than this. You’ll just have to wait and see.

My exciting life

I wore my hair straight today. It was the first time in about four months. I’m so used to seeing myself curly these days that I the sight of suddenly straight hair was very strange. I also decided to give in and get it cut. I’ve been wanting to for a little while now but I kept finding reasons to put it off.

The woman who cut my hair estimated the final result as 6 inches shorter than what I went in with. I think she was exaggerating, although not by much. I’ll probably get a better feel for it tomorrow in the shower.

In other news, paul has been getting me to play NHL 2010 with him. He says the AI in the game is mostly incapable of sticking to basic directions, and it’s much better to have a real person to play with on the same team. I’m having a surprising amount of fun. It probably helps that I insist on practicing before any match and that I’ve made him set it to “rookie” while I try to learn the controls. So far I know how to lift the stick, skate, shoot, aim, check, pass, saucer pass, drop pass, protect the puck, keep my eye on the puck, and score all with a limited amount of success.

We’ve also begun playing racquetball once more. It’s nice to have easy access to a court again. So far we’ve never had to wait for the court to become available, and we haven’t reserved it in advance. Although the past two times we’ve had an audience waiting to use it after us.

Clearing out the cobwebs

I composed a mental list over the weekend of things I could share here since so much has happened in the past year. Unfortunately as soon as I sat down all my ideas evaporated. So I’m just going to write and hope that my thoughts will compose themselves and I will magically remember all the things I wanted to say.

I’m going to start off by boring you with weather, and we’ll see where it goes from there. In the almost seven months I’ve been in Alabama I’ve experienced one of the hottest summers on record, followed by one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record. All summer long and into the fall, the daily weathermen talked about how unusual the temperatures were. It was frequently ten degrees above average. I was hoping this would lead to a mild and pleasant winter. My hopes were quickly dashed right around the end of November. I wish I had paid more attention to how many days the area suffered through the misery of highs only making it into the 20s. I missed the snowfall at Christmas because I had the good sense to escape to a warmer locale and visit family. Then, the region was walloped by that ridiculous snowstorm earlier this month. You can tell I live someplace unequipped to deal with much snowfall. The weathermen here are particularly amusing. I thought the forecasters in the metroplex were bad, but they have nothing on the drama queens around here. Anytime severe weather is even a possibilty they behave as if the apocalypse is upon us. I admit, the 9 inches of snow was very impressive, and absolutely everything shut down for about two days.

This past weekend was a nice change though. We luxuriated in the warmest temperatures we’ve had since Thanksgiving. It was impossible to ignore how beautiful Saturday was, and I spent a few hours sitting by the lake while Paul fished. I’m glad I did too, not just because I was taking advantage of the gorgeous weather, but if I hadn’t I would not have seen the beaver swim casually by. It was a bit shabby looking, and when I first saw it in the water I thought it might be someone’s discarded teddy bear floating past. Then I noticed it was moving purposefully and under its own power so I took closer notice. It ended up sauntering out of the water about thirty feet away to gnaw on some downed limbs in a nearby copse of trees. I took some photos, but I haven’t moved them off the camera yet. I’ll try to get them posted soon.

How about that? This turned out pretty lengthy considering I didn’t really say much. It’s good practice for when (make that if) I actually have something important to share.

All I want for Christmas is for someone to buy my house.

And it looks like it just might happen. We may finally have a buyer for our house in Texas! It may have taken about half a year, but we’ve had an acceptable offer.

Now we just need to cross our fingers and say some silent prayers to help make sure this whole thing makes it all the way to closing without any problems.

Wish us luck!

Upside down and inside out

So much for my efforts to get back on the ShrinkyDink track and to attempt regularly scheduled posts again. Those plans were shot down when Paul was offered and then accepted a job offer in an entirely different state. We rushed around like madmen to find a place to live, pack up our belongings and relocate all in the span of roughly less than a month. I’m exhausted.

Our official move in day was last week, and after a lot of help (thanks everyone!) and diligent effort we only have four boxes left to unpack. That’s not quite right. At least two of the boxes are partially unpacked, a third will probably remained packed up just not taped shut, and the fourth, well I guess we’ll wait and see about that one. Right now I’m trying to organize all the things that have already made it out of the box so I can find room for all the things still in boxes. I also have hopes of putting stuff up on the walls before the week ends.

Paul’s been talking about a venture into Alabama geocaching this weekend, but if it rains (like it’s supposed to) I don’t really think I want to be knee deep in mud at least not without some semblance of familiarity with the local flora and fauna. I’ve mentioned going out to see a movie or possibly attending the Star Wars nerd-o-rama at the Space and Rocket Center but I think it’s in town until sometime in September so we should have plenty of time to catch it before it leaves.
