just another error in judgement

July was really not a very good month for me and apparently the month itself holds some unfathomable animosity towards me. Yesterday evening was the grand finale. Once I had gotten off of work, Paul and I went for a walk. When we were heading back to the apartment, about 200 feet away from the front door, I was ambushed. The month of July attacked with unprecedented ferocity …. July sprained my ankle. Having never had a sprained ankle in my life, I’m very bitter about this. When I went down from the attack, I heard a snap and the thought that it might be broken briefly occurred to me, I also thought I might be sick in the middle of the parking lot.

But luckily, Paul was there though and he kept me from being run over, and gently escorted me home, and took care of me. He’s some sort of superman.

I can’t really walk properly. I mostly just hobble from place to place at the moment, and because of this I’m missing work this evening. I’m not too happy about that either. I had planned on another 8 hour day today, but those plans were squashed flat. I was hoping for just 4 hours, and now that’s not going to happen either.

I think I have just officially acquired a potentially lethal case of cabin fever.

I’ll get you back next year, July, you just wait and see.

My talent for making mistakes is alive and well. My latest accident?: I managed to superglue the shears of my best scissors together. I discovered it several hours after the fact when I went to use the scissors to open a package that normal people would have been able to open with ease. (I use scissors, otherwise when I attempt to tear packages open, yes even those labeled *tear here*, the contents tend to suddenly go sailing through the air end up adorning the floor or anyone standing nearby.) Luckily Paul was here and the genius that he is, helped me un-stick them. My life would probably be a lot more chaotic without him.

Update: I’m really on a roll today. In the middle of my shower, I forgot what I was doing and washed my face with shampoo. ICK.

Work was crazy this week and will continue to be so until some time in August. I’m putting in double shifts during the weekdays because half our staff is suddenly gone. One gave her two weeks notice and her final day was last weekend. One has a broken shoulder that requires surgery. Another has a deathly ill sister whose health is getting worse daily and who may have to take off for awhile. That pretty much just leaves me and the guy who really only qualifies as half an employee. I know it seems a little tacky for me to complain about a fellow employee but he barely manages to finish his own work, so I’m not really expecting him to help take up the slack. He also has a rather predictable pattern of calling in sick about once a week. If we weren’t so strapped for people they might have fired him.

I was getting ready to post and I finally realized I’m completely incapable of talking about anything relevant to the world condition here. Today was one of my day’s off; my weekend rarely ever synchs up to anyone else’s. After waking up this morning I spent several hours switching between CNN and some other 24 hour news channel. (I tried watching one of the local stations, but that didn’t last for very long. They still have a tendency to look like they’ve had too much plastic surgery to me. A side note to those out there who wish their cheekbones were a more prominent and striking feature… please, please don’t ever consider cheekbone implants. They’ll turn you into a visual monstrosity.)

Anyway, after a morning of being disturbed by current events, and not just the ones in London, I tried to bury the rest of my day in books and birthday shopping. It has only partially worked. With the evening newscast going on right now I feel myself being drawn back to the other room.

I realize it’s a National holiday today, and I should probably be posting something relevant to Independence Day but I won’t be … unless it’s to tell you that my movie weekend is in full swing. One film was a complete stinker, another was all fluff, one film would have been decent if it hadn’t been ridiculously slow-paced, another one was so cheesy that my fondness for it can only be explained away by my introduction to it during childhood. Only one film has been really quite excellent.

What I am really posting about is the new counter down at the bottom of the page. I replaced it and it looks like I had all of two people stop by yesterday. It’s nice to have such low readership numbers. Traffic here hasn’t been that low in a long long time.
