just another error in judgement

I was given a DS for Christmas. Which is wonderful. It’s exactly what I wanted, and it wasn’t particularly surprising that someone bought it for me. (Along with every single game I asked for.) I have even been gracious enough to let Paul have some playtime with it. Just before dinner though, Paul walked in and asked about the running price of the DS. So now I’m wondering if pretty soon there will be a second one in the house…

We’ll just wait and see.

After inflicting the entire first disc of Firefly on everyone, we exchanged gifts with my family. It just goes to show that I have a pretty wonderful family. Not only did I get mostly books, amazing, wonderful books, but all seemed to genuinely enjoy Firefly. I now feel like I need to sit down and watch all the episodes we didn’t subject them to last night, today, but my love of books to be read is battling my love of good television.

It’s a little hard to believe it’s really been five years. It doesn’t feel like that much time has passed at all. Nevertheless a milestone has been reached and celebration is called for. So today’s plans include at least two films, a lunch or dinner out, maybe a game of racquetball (yes, really with racquets and an enclosed court and everything) and probably an hour playing animal crossing or castlevania, you know, something domestic.

About a week ago I bought a new conditioner and since I’ve started using it I’ve noticed something strange about the packaging. The bottle seems pretty much like any other conditioner bottle, but whatever the manufacturer used to adhere the label to the instructions for use is failing miserably. Everytime I use the conditioner, random letters slide down off the bottle, onto my hands or down onto the shower floor. They may even end up in my hair. Sometimes entire words disappear at once, other times, like today, I end up with letters from different words stuck to my hand. Today was a little different though. I noticed the letters spelled out a word I’m pretty certain wasn’t anywhere on my conditioner bottle, “evil.” So I have to wonder, does this mean something? Is some otherworldly being trying to send me a message or is this just a random fluke?

I’ve also been wondering if it’s simply the kind of thing that happens with all bottles made by this specific manufacturer or if I just happened to pick the one bottle that was flawed. I’m not used to seeing words fall apart in front of me. And as someone who works in a library where words are a way of life, I find it mildly disturbing.

Little tiny flakes are falling from the sky. I’m actually a little surprised by it. We were gone last year when it snowed and by the time we returned it had disappeared. In fact, since we’ve lived in Dallas I’ve only seen it snow once, and that was two February’s ago. It’s a pretty clear memory since it was the only time I’ve ever seen an anatomically correct snowman …. and the newspeople on all the stations acted like snow had been created just so that they could report about it. One field reporter would stand somewhere in Fort Worth talking about how it was snowing, then they would cut to a second field reporter standing somewhere in Dallas seemingly amazed that it was snowing in Dallas as well. They all came across as total morons. I refuse to turn on the television, just in case they’re pulling the same stunt this time.

I went to the Harry Potter movie not long ago. It was a pretty good adaptation of the book with all the unnecessary and redundant bits chopped off. In fact there were one or two parts of the film that were better than what I envisioned when I read the book. Still, with all the cutting they did from the book version it still ran more than two hours. I didn’t really notice the time much because it was fast paced enough to keep things moving.
