just another error in judgement

It’s snowing today.

So it turns out my mother managed to get out of here at just the right time. She’s been stuck in Dallas with me since Saturday morning. The airport at her final destination was closed because of ice and horrible weather. She lucked out that Paul and I live here and she had someplace else to stay other than an overcrowded airport or the overcrowded hotels around it. We took her to DFW last night and bid her a safe flight. Everything was peachy-keen, and then this morning we wake to find that it’s been snowing here. The roads are a little slick, school has been cancelled, and the high today will be about half a dozen or more degrees lower than any of the weathermen were predicting.

They are now saying we won’t be getting above freezing today. And once again the only thing on the news are the on-location special reports about how it’s snowing and that it’s so-very-cold and everyone should stay inside and have hot chocolate. I agree about the hot chocolate, but apparently there is no news anywhere else in the world. Or at least nothing that happens to be important enough to report about.

The news stations here are useless.

For the past week I have been guilty of being a slacker. I should have updated here right after New Year’s day. It isn’t as though I’ve been too busy to post. My time is just slowly being absorbed away by not- very- important- but- oh- so- entertaining things.

Most of my “free time” has been monopolized by the copy of Final Fantasy XII Jeremy gave to me way back in November. He spoils me. This pretty much makes him the best brother ever. When he visited at Christmas, he gave me some good ideas on a more effective gambit system. It turns out I was way underutilizing that beautiful feature. It also helped that he and I were pretty much on the same place in the game. It was after watching him take down two marks that I finally had the confidence to venture back into the sewers.

Also, definitely deserving mention in this post is that I also have the awesomest brother in law. He and his wife gave Paul and I our very own Wii for Christmas. The only sad thing is that I’ve been so distracted by FFXII that I haven’t yet given the Wii the amount of attention it deserves. I have enjoyed playing some of Wii-Sports. I’m most fond of bowling, probably because I’m actually better at it than Paul. For the moment at least. I stink at tennis. I’m working on baseball. Golf looks totally boring to me, just like in real life, and if I ever try boxing I’ll most likely ruin it all by quoting lines from Rocky. Thankfully though, we haven’t bought Zelda: Twilight Princess yet so I don’t have to agonize over which game on which system I want to play most.

As it is, I’m stretched a little thin gaming-wise right now. Other than FFXII and Wii-Sports, I’ve also been trying to finish up the advanced level of sudoku on Brain Age (Something else I’m actually better at than Paul, though only heaven knows why.), and maintaining my town in Animal Crossing: Wild World. My poor little town of Vertigo is suffering. To top it off, Paul managed to find me a wonderful, almost pristine, copy of Discworld II: Mortality Bytes. There’s a funky cigarette smell to the booklet, but all else is great.

So, to bring my rambling to a close, my Christmas was a good one. I got to be around people I love, who love me back and ultimately spoil me.

And so far 2007 is shaping up to be pretty wonderful. Maybe it will even be legendary.
